Summer in California is a year round state of mind. The Hollywood pinup celebrates the light, easy and breezy feel of summer. Though some feminists may consider the human form in a bathing suit an objectification that should not be celebrated, I grew up watching oh so many movies on TV and went to the local movie theater each weekend. To this day, I am still drawn to the representation of these beauties. They are in by subconscious visions where they wish to stay. Compared to the overexposure of today standards, these images are much more innocent and fun, rather than blatantly sexual. These images were inspired by black and white movie stills. They are digital drawings that are also painted on the computer with photo editing brushes and filters. The text represents the mood the setting and figure inspires.
I had the privilege to see the SUNLIGHT Poster displayed for free on an electronic billboard on Sunset Blvd. at the former Key Club, one block east of the Roxy during the week of March 6 - 13, 2015. Through Art Goes Electric (www.artgoeselectronic.com), the City of West Hollywood's Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission (WeH0) offers artists the chance to display their work on the Sunset Blvd. - a dream for this artist. Last year I participated in a one night art exhibition in the Whisky-A-Go-Go. As a lover of rock -n-roll that was a wish fulfillment. Seeing my name in lights was an added thrill.
